This week on the ranch…
Here you can see we’re still feeding in the leftover stockpile grass over at the home ranch to maximize usage. When we feed right on top of stockpile they eat it too and knock down the rest, which feeds the soil. None of it goes to waste.
Josh snapped this photo over at the home ranch. It portrays the stockpile usage that goes on when we feed the cattle over top of it. As you can see, we’ve got quite a bit left to feed through.
Jed, one of the crew over at the ranch in the Lemhi, has been building a lot of jack fence as part of the “from-the-ground-up” livestock infrastructure project. He snapped this photo while working on some jacks and perfecting his chain saw art.
Glenn and a few of the crew drove to Billings last week for a soil health conference. The conference addressed using regenerative crop techniques to recover soils and grasslands while creating profitable and resilient family farm and ranch enterprises. Glenn spoke on tools and techniques in the regenerative grazer’s toolbox and how ranchers could double their productivity and profitability when they invest in healthy soils.

This week’s story: “On Those Happy Trails”
Dear Friends
Trails. We’ve all walked them. They’re certainly different from roads. On a trail, with each footfall, we discover an intimacy with the landscape. We’re seeing, feeling, heading, and smelling.
And for many of us, we even discover healing. It’s a simple act, this walking in nature. Our ancestors lived in and near trails.
And they weren’t always happy. Some were incredibly sad, like the Trail of Tears. But when I say Happy Trails, I mean it as a wish for your blessing and wellness.
Read on to learn of some Trails of discovery and sustenance in our neck of the woods. And how that in even finding them, we enjoy reflection on a window to the past.
Happy Trails,
Glenn
