This week on the ranch…
We had a stunning golden orange purplish sorbet sort of morning at the ranch on Wednesday and oldest daughter Melanie captured it beautifully. The days of winter go on, though with each one we gain a few more minutes of sunlight. A sweet reminder that summer is indeed on its way, and the cold days of winter will eventually pass. For now we relish in the beauty that is winter – a sweeping landscape covered in a blanket of white that reflects the vibrance of this sky.
Josh snapped the above photo of Wesley, another of our other range-rider turned ranch hands. They recently took a scouting trip up to the range. It’s hard to believe we’re only a few months away from grazing that rangeland again and sleeping on the ground in canvas teepees. Their stove-piping excursion is exciting to us, see, because that moisture is invaluable come spring and summer. The snowpack is a gift.
Josh took this photo at the home ranch during a walkthrough of all the horses and cattle. We are glad to have plenty of hands around here because a fresh set of eyes to look everyone over is always a good thing.
Youngest daughter Maddy took the above photo of Jed, one of our wonderful ranch hands. Jed works on our new (to us) ranch in the next valley over. Here the crew is bringing cattle in for a sort. We brought some of them back to the Alderspring home ranch and some went over to the lease ranch just down the road.

This week’s story: “The Days are Short, the Time is Long”
Dear Friends
We have had decently mild weather at the ranch this week. Yesterday we received a dusting of snow and even the backs of the horses and beeves were blanketed in white. They have thick winter coats built in, it doesn’t seem to bother them; their resilience is perhaps greater than ours.
Each morning the sun continues to rise a little earlier, lengthening our hours of daylight. With it we’re reminded that no season lasts forever, and the work we do matters.
This week we share again, a story written by daughter Abby, about the changing of seasons, harshness of this valley we call home, and bounty of the hard, honest work we strive to carry out.
Happy Trails,
Glenn

We’ve been crafting our pastured protein here in Idaho’s Rocky Mountains for nearly 30 years and delivering it direct to our partners for nearly as long. This is wild wellness, delivered from our ranch to your door.
