Newsletter from September 27, 2014:
Fall has officially arrived on the Ranch, with cool weather and a little bit of color on the trees and shrubs along the river bottoms. Aspens are just beginning to show tinges of gold; the dogwoods are highlighted with red. Higher up, low clouds lazily drift among the high peaks and leave a hint of snow behind.
I think I like the air the best. It is thick and refreshing and filled with the scents of autumn. I posted a pic today on facebook of some of this morning’s view from home. From it I’m hoping you can imagine the fullness in the air. Check it out Here.
Ethan and Abby’s wedding went off without a hitch (except their hitching, that is!). It was a beautiful day in the high Pahsimeroi. Some 200 folks showed up from all over the country; it was a little surprising since we almost doubled the population of the valley that day (our valley is nearly the size of some of the smaller US states in the east).
All of those guests raved about the meal. We smoked and then slow roasted 110 lbs of Alderspring chuck roasts for nearly 30 hours. Talk about flavor development! I’ll blog a recipe post about just how to go about that, but I hate to now because we used up most of our inventory for the wedding feast! I’ll let you know in one of our next newsletters about when it posts.
